Murder, fame and jealousy rear their ugly heads in this magnificent and dazzling West End musical. So often musicals tend to veer off down a well trodden path of repetitive, predictable numbers - but Chicago begins with a magnificent rendition of All That Jazz, and follows through with a series of outstandingly choreographed numbers, smoky jazz and sharp humour. The story is a simple one - Roxie (Ruthie Henshall) wants fame - and she'll do anything to get it, including murder. This is a crowd pleaser in the best possible sense - you'll find it hard to leave the theatre without a smile on your face.

Joe Orton's macabre farce gets another West End outing, hot from Chichester, where it received a rapturous reception. Its hard to see why. I think the problem for me is that farce, like the corpse in the wicked storyline, leaves me cold. Thats not to say it isn't enjoyable; it is. And the performers perform with sinister relish, clearly enjoying themselves. Inspector Truscott is the standout - an energetic, hilarious performance. If farce is your thing then go and see it, otherwise stay away.

The critics hated it - the audiences love it. Its noisy, brash, corny and naff. And it's great! The Bee Gee's classic numbers are brought to life on the London stage with such an energy its almost impossible not to get swept up in the hysteria of it all. This is theatre for the masses - a huge Big Mac of a theatre production, beefed up with massive sound, impressive sets and a great central performance from Adam Garcia as Tony, the disco king. Teen fave Peter Andre was there the night we were; wouldn't he make a great lead in this musical? I wonder if that's why he was there... !!
